Statement from the
Partnership for Quality Care
on the 10-18-07 House of Representatives Vote to
Override Presidential Veto of SCHIP

The Partnership for Quality Care is disappointed to see that the House’s worthy attempt to override the veto of a bill to strengthen SCHIP and cover 10 million low-income children narrowly missed its goal.

In the past two years nearly one million children have lost their insurance, paying the price for our broken healthcare financing system. As healthcare providers and workers, we know that these children now face a greater risk of costly complications brought on by decreased access to timely preventive and primary care.

We extend our thanks to the 273 members of Congress on both sides of the aisle who supported the strengthening of SCHIP today, especially to the Congressional leaders who have worked so hard on behalf of millions of uninsured children.

We look forward to supporting the continued efforts to renew and strengthen the SCHIP program, not only extending but also meaningfully supporting the program, and ensuring that the 10 million children who would have been covered by this legislation receive the healthcare they need and deserve.
